Stapleton, a regular contributor to Motor Boating & Sailing magazine, tells how to buy an expensive boat. He lays the groundwork by emphasizing needs assessment, ballpark prices, and beginning the search for a vessel. Next he goes into the accessories, electronics, communications gear, anchors and other marine gear, and tenders. Following that he covers safety and health at sea, including cruising security and clearing customs in foreign ports. Lastly, he discusses spares and repairs, money and mail, and cruise planning. This supersedes Robert Beebe's Voyaging Under Power LJ 9/1/75; 1984. reprint, the standard text for offshore cruising. Stapleton's advice is sound and up to the minute. His writing style is clear and concise, with just the right amount of anecdotes. Expect demand for this in yachting areas. Highly recommended for public library collections.
